First and foremost customer service specialists, we're a close-knit team of articulate, empathetic, self-motivated technologists who typically share a passion for open-sourced based solutions, a tender spot for Apple products, and a cheerful resignation that yes, we also do Windows.
We eat our own dog food. So we use Zimbra as the central collaboration solution for the company, in addition to iPhones, Blackberry and other mobile devices, to stay in touch with each other and our customers. We have integrated other systems, including a central, Ajax-based enterprise web ticketing system that provides transparency, tracking our activities and responses, and enabling us to hand-off work to each other seamlessly. And we use an Asterisk-based telephone system and soft-phones on our computers to receive in-bound calls from around the world, and forward them to the right person for the best response.
All this technology is for a purpose. Most of us work from home, or offices near to our homes (for better or for worse, but not for lunch). Besides occasional visits to the data centers, we gather periodically at our office in Lincoln Park, Chicago, altogether, and sometimes by department. The technology provides a context for our work, and enables a convenient, Greener lifestyle, that adds materially to the job benefits.
